Robert Howley was a player on the 1997 and 2001 Lions tours and is now making a second successive trip as the Lions attack coach. He became the 22nd head coach of Wales when he was appointed as the Interim Head Coach on 19 April, 2012, following the injuries Warren Gatland suffered in an accident in his native New Zealand. He launched his coaching career as Cardiff Blues backs coach and was appointed Wales Assistant Coach (Attack) on 14 January, 2008, briefly combined the jobs for club and country.

The former scrum half won 59 caps for Wales, scoring 10 tries, and captained his country to 15 wins in 22 matches, including a run of 10 successive victories in 1999. His first Lions tour in South Africa in 1997 was cut short by a shoulder injury, but he played in the first two Tests in Austrlaia in 2001. He played for Bridgend, Cardiff and London Wasps, helping Wasps to win the Heineken Cup, European Challenge Cup and the Premiership titles.

He was Assistant Coach with Bob Dwyer for the 2004 Barbarians.
