The British & Irish Lions
Tour to South Africa 2009

Simondium School in Paarl is within close proximity of FirstCape's Simondium winery and is the beneficiary of FirstCape's Lions legacy.
The school has 840 pupils with only 25 members of staff, 8 of whom are teachers. As with most South African schoolchildren, many of the pupils at the school are rugby enthusiasts but the poor facilities at the school - including the uneven rugby pitch and outdoor shower and toilet facilities - have limited the children's opportunities.
With the legacy project, FirstCape has undertaken a huge refurbishment project which will provide the school with a new rugby pitch as well as renovated shower and changing facilities.
The completed pitch and facilities will be unveiled by Gerald Davies during next year's Tour to South Africa. Some of the squad will also be present for the unveiling of the project, where they will no doubt be looking out for those children who could one day become their adversaries on the pitch!
Greg Wilkins, a UK Director of FirstCape states, "When we became an Official Sponsor of the British & Irish Lions earlier this year, we made a commitment to creating a post-Lions footprint in the South African community. We are very proud of our association with The Lions and to be able to offer this to Simondium school, which is minutes away from our main winery, is simply fantastic. Having The Lions unveil the new facilities will be a very special moment for Simondium School and, of course, for FirstCape."
