Blair, the 108th Captain for Scotland began playing rugby at the age of four at Edinburgh Academy Primary. He also played for Edinburgh Academicals and then for Boroughmuir before joining the Edinburgh Gunners.
He has been capped at Scottish Schools, U19s and U21s as well as being part of the Scotland sevens squad for the Manchester Commonwealth Games in 2002, his sevens skills impressed earlier that year by being top try scorer for the IRB sevens in London. He also has five caps at Scotland ‘A’ level.
He debuted at senior level for Scotland against Canada in 2002 in Vancover on the North American tour and also scored a try. Selected for the 2003 RWC Scotland squad he debuted during the USA game in Brisbane. He remained ever present in the Scottish set up.
He secured the captaincy from the injured Jason White for the 2008 RBS 6 Nations championship match against Ireland in Croke Park. He continued as Captain for the Culcutta Cup game against England picking up man of the match in the victory against the Englishmen which Scotland won 15-9. He has remained Captain through the summer Tour to Argentina in 2008 and through the Autumn Internationals and the 2009 6 Nations Championship. He is called up to replace the injured Tomas O’Leary.
