Jones is one of the Llanelli Scarlets and Wales’ star performers. He spent eight years with the Scarlets before he moved to French Club Clermont Auvergne in 2004. While in France he was selected for the 2005 British & Irish Lions and he played in all three tests against the All Blacks, scoring 14 points in the third Test.
He made his international debut as a 50th minute replacement against South Africa in Pretoria, in June 1998. He was the 16th player to win 50 Welsh caps and is now the second-highest points scorer in Welsh international rugby history behind Neil Jenkins. Jones has also scored over 500 points in the Heineken Cup. In 2006/07 he rejoined the Scarlets.
He captained Wales in 2003 in a RWC warm up match against England and regained the leadership in 2006 against Australia and New Zealand. Jones then captained Wales in the 2007 RBS Six Nations and won selection for Wales to the 2007 RWC in France.
He played a major part in both of Wales’ Grand Slam victories in 2005 and 2008. In 2008 he scored a total of 44 points in the campaign and in 2009 he again played in all five of Wales’ 6 Nations matches.
