The son of Young Munster legend Ger Earls, he has progressed from the AIB League playing with Thomond and then Munster in the Magners League and Heineken Cup.

Educated at St Munchins College, Limerick City, he represented the college at all levels culminating in the Munster Schools Senior Cup medal in 2006 where he scored tries in every round of the cup including the winner in the final against PBC Cork in the final on St. Patrick's Day.

He represented Ireland at U20s where they won the Grand Slam but also Ireland A and the Ireland sevens team.

Earls made his debut for Ireland in November 2008 against Canada at Thomond Park, where he scored his first international try with his first touch of the ball.
