Alex Corbisiero was called up to join the 2013 British & Irish Lions squad from Argentina, where he was on tour with England. He was brought to Australia to replace the injured loose head prop, Cian Healy. Born in New York, he moved to England at the age of four and learned his rugby at the Hall School, Wimbledon, and playing through the age grades at KCS Old Boys, London Scottish, Cobham and London Welsh. He then joined the London Irish Academy and won honours at England Under 18, Under 19, Under 20 and Saxon levels. He also played for the USA Under 19 team, qualifying through birth, and was also eligible, via his grandfather, to play for Italy. He helped England Under 20 complete the Grand Slam in 2008 and made his full England debut against Italy in the 2011 RBS 6 Nations when he came in for the injured Andrew Sheridan. Since then he has played at the 2011 Rugby World Cup and was an ever present in the English front row in the 2012 6 Nations. He helped London Irish reach the Premiership final in 2009, but is moving on to join Northampton Saints next season after five seasons with the Irish. A knee injury wrecked his season, and seemingly his chances of playing for the Lions, but he returned to full fitness at the end of the season and was selected to tour with England in Argentina, where he won selection of the first Test against the Pumas. Then came the call from the Lions and he began winging his way from South America to Australia.
