James retains his place in the starting XV for the visit of Worcester Warriors tomorrow but 21-year-old wing Jack Cuthbert takes over the kicking responsibilities having done so part-way though the win over the Exiles.
The former Sharks playmaker started all six of his country's recent Tri Nations fixtures, having been a vital part of their World Cup-winning campaign last year.
With the retirement of Percy Montgomery, it looks increasingly likely that James will be required to slot points for the Boks on their November tour of the UK and during next summer's much-anticipated series against the Lions.
South African head coach Peter de Villiers will no doubt be keen for James to refind his touch with boot, especially with critics expecting the Test series against the Lions to be an incredibly tight affair.
