Nokwe, who became the first player to score four tries in a Tri-Nations match in South Africa's 53-8 demolition of the Wallabies, could be back on the field as early as next weekend.
The Springboks have returned to provincial duty in the Currie Cup and Nokwe hopes to be playing soon again.
"My ankle already feels much better than it did on Saturday," he told Die Volksblad. "I still have some pain, but I can already walk properly. I will see the doctor again on Wednesday, because my ankle is still swollen, but it isn't that serious and it's actually more bruised than anything else."
Free State coach Naka Drotske said Nokwe would not be considered for the match against Western Province.
"His chances of playing are equal, but we've decided not to consider him for this weekend. We want him to feel positive about his own fitness and to retain his self-confidence of the weekend's Test against Australia. We can rather select him again next week," said Drotske.
