Just three months ago, the Stormers No9 missed out on selection for the first Test against Wales after breaking a team curfew and being under the influence of alcohol.
This time, Januarie had played his part in an impressive Currie Cup performance by Western Province on Saturday before being arrested on Sunday morning in Cape Town.
"I was at the police station from 02:30 to 08:30 [on Sunday] to assist Ricky," attorney Frikkie Erasmus told Die Burger on Sunday.
"My initial observation was that he definitely did not look like someone that was under the influence of alcohol. The police had a blood sample taken for testing."
Januarie is expected to appear before magistrates on Wednesday of this week.
