"Having spoken to Philippe (Saint Andre), and with Martin Johnson having an input on the England side of things, I will be primarily playing full-back this season, with the ability to cover centre and wing as well," said Tait, who joined Sale Sharks from Newcastle Falcons earlier this summer.
"I spoke to both Philippe and Martin individually and they told me that was their plan for me."
Tait made his England debut as an 18-year-old under Andy Robinson back in 2005 but has been unable to command a regular starting spot in the years that have followed. The ex-England Sevens star now believes that regular club rugby at full back gives him the best opportunity do change that.
"As a player, you want to be in the England squad, but primarily in the starting XV.
"Unfortunately, I have been in and out of that for the last couple of years, but now I want to nail down a starting position for England at full-back.
"I think having a set position certainly helps from a form point of view.
"You don't mind being moved around occasionally throughout the season, but to get the best out of yourself it's important to settle in one position."
