Elsom, who has been one of his country's most impressive performers in the southern hemisphere's premier international tournament, will be available for the crucial clash with New Zealand in a fortnight's time but will miss this weekend's match with the Springboks.

Like fellow Leinster-bound forward CJ van der Linde of the Boks who has been banned for four weeks, Elsom faced a SANZAR Disciplinary Committee hearing after he was cited for tackling South African lock Victor Matfield in the air during the second half of the match.

A review of extensive video coverage showed Elsom using two hands to pull down Matfield, rotating him sideways and off-balance. The Springbok skipper landed on his feet and fell awkwardly across Elsom.

Elsom has been suspended from all rugby until Monday, September 1.
