The Springboks have hit an injury crisis ahead of their one-off Test against Argentina with both Peter Grant and Ryan Kankowski pulling out of the squad.
Grant will undergo surgery on his right shoulder before the weekend, but is expected to be out of action for between six and 12 weeks. That means he will not only miss the Mandella Challenge fixture, but also the remainder of the Vodacom Tri Nations tournament.
As for Sharks back row man Kankowski, he sprained his shoulder during last weekend's Currie Cup clash with the Lions and is likely to be sidelined for up to three weeks.
Springbok coach Peter de Villiers confirmed he will not call up a replacement for Grant at this stage, and no decision has been taken yet on a replacement for Kankowski.
