The 27-year-old scrum-half starred for Warren Gatland's Wales during their 2008 Grand Slam success but hasn't featured for club or country since the EDF Energy Cup win over Saracens back in March.
"Hopefully I can get back into the Wales team and crack on with a chance at the Lions," Phillips told the Wales on Sunday newspaper.
"I'm just pleased to be back on the pitch. I've had such a long time out so it was great to be back playing with the lads again."
Phillips, who faces competition from 2005 Lions Dwayne Peel and Gareth Cooper for the Wales No9 shirt for the Six Nations opener against Scotland on February 8, knows that game time will now be crucial to his chances of earning the right to take on the Springboks as a Lion next summer.
"It was hard work, but now I want to get as much game time as possible over Christmas and get my match fitness up," added Phillips.
"I'm chuffed to bits because the injury has been a massive low in my career. It's been a nightmare with all the setbacks but I'm glad to be back. I feel great and I'm looking forward to the next game already."
