Unfortunately for the Scots, a sixth penalty from Danny Cipriani and a late Tom Rees try ensured it was the visitors who made it two wins from three attempts in Pool 2 of Europe's premier competition.

"Tactically, we were smart and our pack was in total control of Wasps and we played in the right areas," said Robinson, whose side face a return fixture against the English champions at Adams Park next Sunday.

"We made a couple of disappointing decisions. Every time we got isolated in our half, Wasps punished us."

Both sides scored a try apiece, with wing Mark Robertson crossing for Edinburgh, but Cpiriani landed six penalties and a conversion for a personal tally of 20 points in what Wasps head coach Shaun Edwards described as an 'exemplary' kicking display.

Robinson, who is now in his second season in charge in the Scottish capital, believes the visitors' ability to take their chances every time one came their way, together with their experience of winning big games, proved to be the difference between the two sides.

"The closest they got to our line with the ball in hand was our 22-metre line and they got 12 points in the lead. Unfortunately, at this level, that's how you win games.

"When it came to closing the game down the last 15 minutes, Wasps showed the class they had in order to do that."
