On his home ground in Durban last weekend the immaculate Pienaar kicked the Boks to victory both out of hand and off the ground. He ended the game with 13 points and completely justified his selection in the No 10 jersey.
But while his first option at the ABSA Stadium was to kick for territory, he says things might be different in Pretoria as the Springboks look to clinch the Castle Series with a second victory.
"We went into the first Test with a plan to kick the ball quite a bit. In hindsight, we should possibly have hung on to the ball a bit more," said Pienaar.
"That is something we have looked at this week. Whereas last weekend my first option was to kick, on a normal day I'd opt to run first.
"I hope to get more chances to get our backs into the game at Loftus because we have such good outside backs. Bryan Habana and JP Pietersen hardly saw the ball in attack last weekend, so I'll certainly be looking at creating more space for them"
