With Bakkies Botha ruled out of the third Test this weekend after receiving a two week ban for his dangerous charge on Adam Jones in Pretoria, the Boks need to find a partner for Victor Matfield. Bekker has replaced Botha in both Tests to date, but might not be fit by Saturday.
That's why South African coach Peter de Villiers has called-up Sharks skipper Johan Muller to provide cover for the third Test. Anothere candidate for second row duty, Danie Rossouw, was carried off with concussion after colliding with Brian O'Driscoll moments after coming onto the field last weekend.
He will be assessed this week under the IRB protocol on concussion, as will O'Driscoll. The Springboks' other injury concerns, scrum half Fourie du Preez and centre Jean de Villiers, were both given the all clear after complaining of shoulder problems.
