Jones comes face to face with the Springboks' 6ft 2ins and 18-stone monster Tendai Mtawarira in the second Test at Loftus Versfeld Wales' most capped tighthead impressed as a second-half replacement in the 26-21 series opener after Mtawarira destroyed England strongman Phil Vickery in the scrum as the world champions drew first blood in the three-Test contest.
Now Lions and Wales front-row legend Price believes 'Hair Bear' Jones will stand toe-to-toe and help Ian McGeechan's men level the series at Lotfus Versfeld. Price, who played in 12 consecutive Lions Tests on three tours between 1977-83, said: "I don't think The Beast will be beasting anyone this weekend.
"Adam made a huge difference to the front row last weekend and he helped not only to hold the scrum together but the Lions began to put the South Africans on the back foot.
"That's what we were expecting before the game because the Springboks don't have a good reputation in the scrum.
"In fact, I was surprised Vickery was picked for the first Test because I had seen evidence of a weakness in his scrummaging earlier in the tour.
"I believe this weekend we will have a stable scrum and I don't think we will be under the same pressure. That will have a psychological effect and will filter around to the rest of the team.
"We need the front row to give us the platform and hand the backs a chance of squaring the series."
Jones completes an all-Welsh front-row domination alongside Gethin Jenkins and hooker Matthew Rees.
It is the first time that the tourists will have such a monopoly since the Pontypool front row of Price, Bobby Windsor and Charlie Faulkner represented the Lions against Fiji in 1977.
Price, capped 41 times by Wales, added: "It wasn't a full international but it was still a special achievement to play together as a unit. It's nice to see the Welsh front row boys doing well with the Lions and it will give them a massive confidence boost that the three of them will line-up again.
"But after the way the game went in Durban, it was an obvious choice. I'm disappointed Alun-Wyn Jones has been dropped because he didn't do a lot wrong.
"But the Lions will be aiming to tighten up their game and bring more muscle into the pack."
