The former England captain, 2003 World Cup winner and Test Lion intends to bow out of the domestic game in Sale Sharks' Guinness Premiership clash at home against Bath on April 13, the club he joined on a four-month winter contract from Wigan rugby league club in 1996.
The 32-year-old's international finale should be reserved for the World Cup in France later this year.
Robinson, who has 26 Test tries, will continue to be available for England throughout this summer and for England's World Cup defence in September and October, and intends to retire after that tournament is over.
Robinson said: "I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Sale Sharks, but the time has come to move on to other things.
"I want my last game for Sale Sharks to be a home game, and I want to be able to say a big thank you to the supporters of this great club."
Robinson joined Sale from Wigan in November 2000 and scored a try on his debut against Rotherham, and has a total of 531 appearances in both codes of the game.
He has scored 31 tries in 110 Premiership games and his crowning glory with Sale came when they landed their first league title last season.
But the current season has been a difficult one for the Sharks, having seen their hopes of mounting a successful title defence ruined by injuries.
They are ninth in the Premiership table and not yet safe from relegation, while their Heineken Cup campaign ended at the pool stage and they reached the EDF Energy Cup semi-finals.
Robinson had retired from international rugby in September 2005 but returned for this season's RBS 6 Nations Championship and performed as though he had never been away.
The Sale wing scored four tries in four appearances, including a double in the Twickenham opener against Scotland, and is likely to remain a key part of England head coach Brian Ashton's plans this year despite the challenge of of Mark Cueto, David Strettle and Josh Lewsey for wing berths.
England travel to South Africa for a two-Test tour in spring before World Cup warm-up games this summer against Wales and France (twice) and their World Cup defence against the USA in Lens on September 8.
