The France fly-half's contract at Toulouse expires at the end of this season.
And the 24-year-old, who is currently out of action with a knee injury, appears keen to make the switch from the Top 14 to the Super 14.
"I really hope to go there," Michalak, who is in Durban at the moment, told L'Equipe.
"But at the moment, I haven't signed anything. I still haven't seen a contract."
Michalak, who hopes to return from injury so he can compete at the World Cup with Les Bleus later this year, also revealed Toulouse have made efforts to keep him in France.
"I have met president (Rene) Bouscatel, who has made an offer. I must think about it," he added.
The injury-prone Michalak has played 42 times for France.
