With Eden Park subject to major planning decisions this week, the North Shore city venue has leaked plans of a new stadium, a smaller version of Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.
North Harbour Stadium chief executive Brendon O'Connor believes any tangled red tape in the Eden Park project would open up an opportunity for his arena to capitalise.
He told The New Zealand Herald: "It would seem sensible to me to put equal effort into developing opportunities at North Harbour Stadium, we don't have the problems Eden Park has.
"Then the Government could make an informed decision against rational criteria as to which is the best option for 2011 and beyond."
Eden Park's managing board hear the results of planning inquiries later this week.
