Laubscher, a 44-year-old who played six Tests for the Springboks and was considered one of the top props of his time, was hit by a pickup truck driven by a friend after he had gone to help out at a car accident near his farm in the Western Cape.
Laubscher apparently was helping move a car which had hit a cow, when the pickup truck hit him at high speed, killing him instantly.
Laubscher was standing next to his 17-year-old son Tommie junior when the accident happened.
He won his first cap at the age of 31 and played against Scotland, Wales, England, Argentina and Italy in his career. He was a very popular player in his time.
