Cueto did his chances of being selected for Sir Clive Woodward's squad no harm at all with three scintillating tries in England's 39-7 RBS 6 Nations demolition of Italy at Twickenham on Saturday.
The Sale Sharks flyer now has seven tries from seven internationals, and with a strike rate of more than a try in every other game in the Premiership, the 25-year-old winger will surely figure in Woodward's thoughts.
Cueto believes that Saturday's performance will have provided a timely reminder to the Lions selectors, although he accepts that competition for a seat on the plane will be fierce.
"The Welsh boys are doing really well in the backs and obviously the Irish have the likes of Denis Hickie and Geordan Murphy, who are just brilliant, so it's definitely going to be tough," Cueto said.
"But if I can perform then hopefully I can be given a chance.
"I had a good autumn and although the start of the Six Nations didn't go to plan, with a couple of good performances, starting with the decent one against Italy, then hopefully I will be in contention."
While Cueto is aware of his direct competition for places in the squad, he does not believe in constantly fretting over the form and fitness of others.
"I don't really compare myself to other players in my position," Cueto said. "I tend to just concentrate on my own game and try and do a job for England.
"If you are watching other players either doing well or doing badly, then there is nothing you can do to affect that.
"The most important thing is to concentrate on your own game and if you can score tries and do the basics right, then hopefully the people in the right places are watching and taking note."
