'The little corporal', as he was affectionately known, was just 58 when he passed away at his home on Saturday.
Fouroux won 27 caps for France at scrumhalf from 1972 to 1977, scoring five tries and captaining the side during their memorable Grand Slam triumph of 1977.
He coached Les Bleus from 1981 to 1990, guiding them to the final of the inaugural World Cup in 1987, where they lost to New Zealand.
"We have lost a legend," former France captain Adbelatif Benazzi told L'Equipe.
"He was all about passion. He made French rugby. Many of the people who rule the sport in this country today owe him."
