Henno Mentz scored three times as Lions beat the Reds
Henno Mentz gave Springboks coach Peter de Villiers a timely nudge as he ran in a hat-trick of tries to give the Lions a 31-20 win over the Reds in the Super 14 competition in Brisbane.
The former Sharks winger, who was tipped as a potential Springboks five years ago, continued his rise up the rankings in his debut season with the Johannesburg-based Lions as he spearheaded a great away win for his side.
Reds coach Phil Mooney described his team's performance as "disgusting" and was dismayed when they couldn't score any points when the Lions were temporarily reduced to 13 men in the second half.
In fact, Mentz raced clear for his third try when the Lions were down to 13 men to add insult to injury for the home team.
Mentz is set to face the British & Irish Lions when Ian McGeechan's side travel to Johannesburg to meet the Golden Lions at Coca Cola Park on Wednesday, 3 June.
