Luke Morahan crossed for a brilliant breakaway score in The Lions' last fixture against the Reds in Brisbane, fielding the ball deep in his own territory before slicing through a broken defensive line and then chipping over Stuart Hogg to put the Queenslanders ahead.

Morahan was also impressive in defence at the Suncorp Stadium, preventing two certain scores with last-gasp tackles on Alex Cuthbert and Owen Farrell.

And now he appears to have been rewarded for his spectacular showing after being added to the Qantas Wallabies squad ahead of the three-Test series which kicks off on June 22.

The 23-year-old has been called up to the squad by head coach Robbie Deans after Joe Tomane broke a toe in training this week.

Tomane suffered the setback to the little toe on his left foot during a squad get together on the Gold Coast yesterday.

The Brumbies wing had an MRI scan today and has been ruled out of the opening Test in Brisbane on June 22.

Rugby league convert Tomane is expected to be fit to feature later on in the series but Morahan will join the squad with immediate effect.

Morahan's call up comes just three days after he told this website that he was convinced he wouldn't be featuring for his country on the big stage.

Instead, Morahan was due to represent Australia at the Sevens World Cup in Moscow, but those plans have now been shelved and he could yet run out at his home ground against The Lions once more in a week-and-a-half's time.

Like Tomane, Morahan's one and only Test cap came against Scotland at the Hunter Stadium in June of last year.
