Earlier in the week he said he hoped tour manager Andy Irvine and head coach Warren Gatland would choose someone 'special' to hand over the Test jerseys and the captain got his wish.
The management brought in 'Mr Lions' himself to do the job, Sir Ian McGeechan. In the pantheon of greatest ever Lions, they don't come any better than the man who toured twice as a player and then won two series on five further tours as a coach.
"I have been thinking about Saturday since I was 14-years-old. It will be the biggest moment of my career, without a doubt.
"I found myself kissing my Lions jersey the other day as I was packing it up for another flight. It was the one I wore for the first half of my debut against Queensland Reds.
"I was rather hoping that someone special would be brought in to present the jerseys to us, as has happened on previous tours. I hadn't heard what was happening, but it presented a powerful message."
