Mackay, 26, underwent surgery at Durban's St Augustine's Hospital last Wednesday, after he sustained injuries when he was run over by a security vehicle as he left a night club.His legs and collarbone were broken and his spine was fractured.

Last week, Mackay was said to be recovering well from the surgery, but a Brumbies spokesman confirmed on Monday he had died after suffering a cardiac arrest after contracting an infection in his bloodstream/
