And the centre was back in action under Lions head coach Warren Gatland for the first of Wales' autumn internationals, but was forced off after just 12 minutes with a pectoral muscle injury.
And the Gatland-Davies partnership could be broken up for a lengthy spell after the New Zealander admitted the 25-year-old may face months on the sidelines.
"He's pretty disappointed," Gatland said. "Hopefully, it might settle, but if he needs an operation, it could be five months which would mean missing the Six Nations too.
"The physio said it might settle and he could be back in December. We will wait and see what happens.
"(Losing) Jonathan is a huge blow. He was a big loss to us in the first half and he is a pretty important player to us at the moment."
