He had already kicked off his swansong year with a triumphant Lions Tour in Australia and will now be seeking success with club side Leinster before he calls time on his career in the summer.
And O'Driscoll admits he went through the emotional wringer in his last appearance for Ireland - but will not be hanging up his emerald green shirt with regret.
"The emotions are starting to kick in now," he said."When I do hang this jersey up on the hook inside it will be with fond memories.
"It was last leg stuff and I now know why I'm packing it in, particularly with guys like Mathieu Bastareaud running at you. 80 minutes is a long time for international rugby.
"I am absolutely delighted. There is a huge Irish contingent here and I am glad we gave them something to shout about."
