The 30-year-old, who featured in all three British & Irish Lions Tests Down Under last summer, now faces a race against time to prove his fitness to Warren Gatland ahead of Wales tour to South Africa.
And while Ospreys head coach Tandy admits Hibbard could still feature for Wales this summer, he does admit that time is running out for the hooker.
"Hibbs won't play for us again this season," Tandy told the South Wales Evening Post.
"Wales's tour? He has a remarkable rate of recovery, so I'd never rule him out of anything. But I would have thought it highly unlikely he'd be ready."
