Speaking at the launch of the Test series sponsors, South African Breweries, this week the man who led the then reigning world champions into battle against Martin Johnson's Lions said he had "No worries" about what Smit's side would face in June and July.
After watching the first two rounds of the RBS Six Nations championship Teichmann said he felt there was "no need to worry".
"I watched the England-Wales game at the weekend and they've got some good players. They've also been very clever in appointing Ian McGeechan as the coach, but I'm very excited by the quality of players we have in South Africa," said Teichmann, whose side went down 2-1 in the 1997 series.
"We have a settled team, one that has played together for a long time and if you watched the Super 14 at the weekend you saw unbelievable rugby by some of them. The depth in the current squad is impressive."
There were few concerns, Teichmann added, about the fact the Springboks won't get a warm-up match before going into battle with the Lions in the first Test in Durban on 20 June.
The last time the world champions played together was in their record 42-6 win over England at Twickenham at the end of their Autumn tour of the UK on 22 November. Instead, the players will come into the series against the Lions on the back of a full Super 14 campaign.
"We'll be into our rugby by then. The squad is settled, know their positions and their roles, and that will make it easier to get into Test mode," said Teichmann.
"All the players will be pushing hard for positions, and that makes the coach's job so much easier."
