The Northampton Saints tight-head picked up the injury during his club's European Challenge Cup win over Toulon a week ago and is now a serious doubt for Scotland's clash with Wales on February 7.

"Normally, ribs take a few weeks to recover," said Northampton's rugby director Jim Mallinder.

"He is improving, but we don't know the state."

Murray didn't feature in the Saints' defeat to Harlequins at the weekend and his absence from the starting line up at Murrayfield next Saturday would be a huge blow to Scotland coach Frank Hadden.

Murray was in commanding form during the autumn internationals and has been widely tipped as a potential starter when the Lions tour South Africa this summer.
