The Wales duo were shortlisted for the prestigious award last week along with Scotland scrum-half Mike Blair, Italian back row Sergio Parisse and All Black star Dan Carter.
There was more good news for another possible Ospreys Lion this weekend, as Gavin Henson returned to action following a five-month absence as a result of an ankle injury.
The 26-year-old appeared in the second Test against the All Blacks during the Lions tour of 2005 and has publicly stated his desire to be a part of the squad that travels to South Africa in nine months' time.
Henson will be hoping his latest comeback brings to an end an unfortunate spell of injuries that have dogged his career since returning from New Zealand three years ago.
