"We want to win this test. There is still a chance of winning the series and we want to be positive and play positive rugby," he said.
South Africa are now in desperate need of bonus points if they are to record an unlikely Tri-Nations series win. They need to win both of their remaining matches with a bonus point for scoring four tries, and the skipper has demanded improvements for the trip to Australia.
"We want to go out there and play and it's a matter of using our opportunities this week," he said.
"We've been looking over one or two things and already I've seen a few improvements at training ."
But Matfield admits the World Cup winners are feeling the pressure after successive Tri-Nations defeats to Australia (16-9), and New Zealand (19-0).
He concluded: "There is always a lot of pressure. Naturally, we want to win. Therefore, we put ourselves under a lot of pressure. We don't want to lose to New Zealand in South Africa and two defeats are unacceptable."
