The England No2 was one of the stars of the early part of the 10-match tour of South Africa and featured in the first international against the Springboks in Durban.

Mears has since arrived back in the UK with the rest of the Lions squad and has turned his attentions not only to pre-season training but also to his Testimonial match which takes place next month.

The 30-year-old has teamed up with ex-England flanker Andy Hazell for a joint Testimonial encounter between Bath and Gloucester at Kingsholm on August 15.

Mears joined the Bath Academy in 1997 and has since made 179 appearances for the first-team despite having had to bide his time behind the likes of Andy Long, Mark Regan and Jonathan Humphreys.
