"I think there are exciting times ahead," Jantjes told Die Burger.
"I think this (De Villiers' appointment) will be a breath of fresh air. All the players will feel they now have a chance. Things may get rough in Super 14 matches between the South African teams," he added.
Gcobani Bobo, who is available for the Stormers this year, played for South Africa Under-19s when De Villiers was the coach.
"Peter is a sharp guy and a good person," Bobo said.
"Technically, he is very good and he sticks to his principles.
"The guys who won the World Cup are certainly in the inside lane but a new coach will keep them on their toes and the others will feel they also have a chance."
Former Springbok captain Joost van der Westhuizen said it was hard to comment because he had never played under De Villiers.
"Everyone wanted to crucify Jake before the World Cup tournament and then he went on to win it," he said.
"Only time will tell whether Peter's appointment is the correct one. Give him a chance."
