However, Bernini, who also works as a member of Italy coach John Kirwan's backroom staff, has warned against over-confidence heading into their next match against Scotland.

Having produced two decent showings against the big two of England and France, the belief in the Italian camp is that they can defeat the Scots, who have also lost both their opening matches.

Bernini is also hopeful that Italy can collect only their third-ever win in the competition but believes Scotland will be no pushovers.

"We need be very careful about the Scots," he said.

"I have heard a lot about them which says they are the weakest team, that they have lost a few key players or that they are young and inexperienced.

"But in my opinion an Anglo-Saxon team, strong or weak, never gives up and I'm sure they will came here with the right mentality, which is to win the game.

"But (John) Kirwan knows it and he has also studied them and he will be prepared with no fear for March 6," added Bernini, who admitted that Italy needed to improve on their attacking if they are to defeat the Scots.

Italy scored only nine points in losing to England and then failed to get on the scoresheet in a 25-0 defeat to France last weekend.

"The first two games of the RBS 6 Nations have given me a lot of enthusiasm, especially in defence," added Bernini.

"Against the French I saw a very robust defence from us with lots of concentration and very good pace, but we are lacking in attack where we haven't done much to be honest."
