That illustrated Williams' ambitious plans for the future but the 32-year-old Northampton player has invited people to judge the Scotland coach after the Millennium Stadium clash.
Smith said: "Yes, I'm looking forward to it and obviously the first game of the championships is a big one.
"There has been a lot of change with the new staff coming in and more emphasis has been placed on older players to stand up a bit more.
"I still get as excited, absolutely. A win is of massive importance and we need to perform.
"As in any Six Nations game, you want to get off to a good start but Wales will be in the same position.
"You can judge the difference Matt has made come Saturday.
"I would hope the Scottish fans would see a difference, I would hope we would play better and hopefully we will be more successful."
