Wales Rugby Union chief executive David Moffett is exploring the possibility of attracting Australian rugby league star Andrew Johns to represent the RBS 6 Nations contenders.

Half-back Johns is out of contract with his Australian club, the Newcastle Knights, and is considering switching codes.

Australia have targeted him but he also qualifies to represent the Welsh through his Rhondda-born grandfather.

Moffett told The Western Mail: "If he and his manager are considering his playing options then it seems logical that we should explore the possibility of getting him to play for Wales."

Wales kick-off their RBS 6 Nations campaign against Scotland in Cardiff on February 14.

The Brumbies pair of Ben Mowen and Christian Leali'ifano will get the chance to follow in the footsteps of their team mates by beating the British & Irish Lions when they make their Qantas Wallaby Test debuts against the tourists in Brisbane on Saturday.
