Although Roberts picked up the injury during the Lions' second Test against South Africa the extent of the problem remained undetected for 12 months.
He last played during Wales' two-test tour of New Zealand in June. But is set to hand both club and country a major boost by making his comeback in the next weeks.
"Just had my appointment with the wrist surgeon," said Roberts.
"I walked out feeling like a kid at Christmas, return to the playing field imminent!"
The news will be music to the ears of Wales coach Warren Gatland who admitted, in the wake of Wales' autumn campaign, that he was eager to get the 2009 Lions man of the series back.
"Watch us go when we get Jamie and our other injured three-quarters back," said Gatland."
The Cardiff Blues centre, could make his comeback against Northampton in a European double-header, starting this weekend, but is more likely to feature in the second game and then a busy Magners League period over Christmas.
