Craig seeks more ball
21 March 2003 09:16am
Recalled Scotland international Andy Craig is determined to enjoy at least a little more possession at Twickenham than on his previous outing with the national side.
But, after watching his team-mates enjoy healthy possession figures in the first period, Craig was desperate to get a piece of the action.
However, after his arrival to replace Kevin Utterson 10 minutes into the second half, the tone of the game changed as Wales fought back.
"I didn't get much ball because in the first half we had loads of possession. So I was quite looking forward to getting on," said Craig.
"Then I got on for the last half-hour against Wales and it was just wave after wave of Welsh attack.
"It was just a big defensive effort, although I was happy with the way the midfield defended."
But Craig admitted his return to the side for the Calcutta Cup clash against England had come as a shock.
He said: "It was a bit of a surprise when I was told I was starting again.
"When we are watching a game, it can be quite frustrating. But you have got to earn the shirt.
"I have just tried to get back to basics when I have come off the bench recently. Something must have gone right though."
