But after seeing his teammates secure a second consecutive title with an impressive 40-10 victory over Scotland, Zebo admits he has no issue with head coach Joe Schmidt's decision.
And the Munster flyer believes he made a telling contribution in crucial victories over Italy, France and England to set Ireland on their way to the RBS 6 Nations crown.
"It did hurt, I suppose. You can't really say anything to the coaches, it is their decision," Zebo told the Irish Examiner.
"I just thought I did everything that was asked of me. It wasn't a tournament where I got loads of ball or got massive opportunities going forward. It doesn't really bother me personally, because we won the championship and that is the main thing.
"I was happy with how I went. I was doing the basics as I was asked to. That is all I can do."
