George North scored twice for the Lions against Australia in 2013
British & Irish Lion George North could return to action before the season has finished, according to Northampton Saints backs coach Alex King.
North, who scored two tries in three Tests during the Lions' 2013 tour of Australia, hasn't played since being knocked unconscious in Northampton's win over Wasps on March 27.
The Welsh winger was advised to take the whole of April off following the accidental collision with Wasps No.8 Nathan Hughes but returned to training earlier this week and has been signed off to start his return-to-play protocols.
He won't be back for the Saints' game with London Welsh on Saturday but may play in their final game of the regular season against Leicester Tigers on May 16 as well as the league play-offs.
"George is improving but it's very much in the hands of the medics as to as and when he can resume duties," said King.
"He went back to see the specialist and they're happy with his progress. It's very much in the hands of the medics as to when he can do more, but he's improving and that's all we can ask for.
"If he can play again this season it would be fantastic and if he can't, that's the decision.
"But at the moment he's improving, he's doing more and more but it's up to the medics and they'll be the ones who decide.
"Of course there's hope but George's health comes first and if he can play - brilliant, if he can't then we'll deal with it."
