Incoming New Zealand Rugby Union chief executive Steve Tew is facing short-term financial crisis in the build-up to the 2011 World Cup.
Tew, who replaces Chris Moller next month, is likely to jump into the hot seat as the union's annual report declares another hit in the bank balance with redevelopment work on Auckland's Eden Park and AMI Stadium in Christchurch leaving Test matches with reduced capacity for the next three years.
But Tew was bullish about retaining both venues on the international circuit.
"At both grounds we are losing covered seats during the redevelopment but even with reduced capacities those stadiums will still generate more revenue than the alternatives, Waikato Stadium and North Harbour Stadium," he told the Herald on Sunday.
