The trio have since guided the World Champions to a comprehensive Tri Nations success over Australia and New Zealand and are now set for further celebrations on the domestic scene.
All three players will be celebrating their 50th caps for the Blue Bulls when they face the Cheetahs in this weekend's Currie Cup Final.
Du Preez actually played his 50th match for the union in the semi-final win over Western Province a fortnight ago but the Blue Bulls' custom is to celebrate a player's half century at their home ground of Loftus Versfeld - the venue for this Saturday's South African showpiece.
Matfield began his Blue Bulls careers in 1998, while Botha and du Preez were first capped by the union in 2001.
Their extended presence in the Springboks camp has limited their game time at Currie Cup level, with all three players having appeared more times for their country then they have for their union.
