The 26-year-old Wasps star has never played in a Test match at Twickenham, winning all six of his previous caps on foreign fields - Dunedin, Auckland, Cape Town, San Francisco and Canadian international venues Markham and Burnaby.
But given that Lewsey's first three England appearances were against New Zealand (twice) and South Africa, he should have few problems coping with the occasion.
"Josh makes his first start for England since the North American tour in 2001," said Woodward.
"His attitude over the last couple of years, as he has pushed very hard for selection, has been outstanding.
"He is always very positive, and he thoroughly deserves his place in the starting line-up. His club form has been excellent, and I'm looking forward to him taking his opportunity on Sunday."
