But 28-year-old Thomas, who was in the Wales squad for the Parisian victories in 1999 and 2001, believes that a little self-belief might just swing things in Wales' favour.
"It is a problem for us because we keep losing," he said.
"But I have to say that if the boys can forget the fear factor and get a little more self-belief, there is no reason why we can't do well.
"This side is potentially as good as either of the teams that won in Paris in 1999 and two years ago, so a good performance could be the key.
"Myself and Colin (Charvis) and one or two others have experienced the feeling of winning in France so we can help the youngsters this week.
"But I believe they can help themselves too by believing in their own ability."
