And the Namibian side could include two of the Springboks' 2007 Rugby World Cup heroes, Butch James and CJ van der Linde.
James and van der Linde currently play in Europe and do not have Springbok contracts. Outside half James has a three-year deal at Bath, while prop van der Linde is on the books at Leinster.
But as well as providing a bit of extra class to the Namibian side set to face what will be called an SA Training Squad XV, the game will also give de Villiers one last chance to run the rule over the two players.
It is no secret that van der Linde would love the chance to have a crack at the Lions, while many in South Africa would love to see James fit into the problematic No 10 jersey.
"With the British & Irish Lions tour starting so soon after the completion of the Super 14 it was important to arrange a practice match to enable us to do some match situation planning with the available players ahead of the Castle Series," said de Villiers.
"There is even the possibility that I might ask Namibia to include some of our players in their Invitational XV. Namibia plan to invite other international players to take part which will be an added draw card for spectators."
If James and van der Linde do get a call, then they will find themselves playing alongside a handful of Namibian players who currently ply their trade in the Currie Cup and Super 14 - Bulls flanker Jacques Burger, Stormers prop Wikus Blaauw and Cheetahs centre Piet van Zyl.
"As there is the possibility that we may have players involved in the Super 14 final on 30 May, the SA Training XV will feature players in the current core group of players who are available, and possibly a few newcomers who have performed consistently well during the Super 14," said SA Rugby's acting CEO, Andy Marinos.
"This is part of an extended training squad system similar to what the coach selected ahead of last year's Inbound Tests, where an assessment on an extended group of players can be made before finalising a 30-man squad."
