Jones is no stranger to South African rugby. Having steered the Wallabies to the 2003 Rugby World Cup final on home soil, he was recruited as a consultant by the Springboks as they marched to victory in 2007.
He has also had a consultancy stint with the Bulls and is scheduled to become General Manager of the Japanese club, Suntory.
The Lions hit rock bottom recently with a heavy defeat against the Stormers, but bounced back with a good win over the Brumbies last weekend. They host the Hurricanes at Coca-Cola Park on Saturday before heading to Australia and New Zealand for their five game tour.
That is where Jones' experience will come into play, with Lions coach Eugene Eloff hoping his insight into the playing styles of the Australian and New Zealand sides will give the Lions a chance of edging up the Super 14 table.
