Lions Australia Tour 2013

Despite playing in a struggling side, Chris Paterson is one Scot who could figure when Sir Clive Woodward names his squad for this summer’s British & Irish Lions tour to New Zealand.

But one player he figures could go is Charlie Hodgson, the man he believes makes England tick.

Hodgson’s goalkicking has proved inconsistent on the Six Nations stage this year and England have missed Jonny Wilkinson in that respect.

But Paterson pinpointed the Sale fly-half as the man who has got Andy Robinson’s new-look back division moving.

The backs have scored 10 of the 13 tries England have run in in the Twickenham victories over Italy and Scotland and the Scotland full-back said: "Credit to the England attack and especially Charlie Hodgson.

"He has the ability to take the ball at the line and make defenders change systems very, very late. With him doing that the attack is reorganised quicker than the defence.

"We were falling off tackles and it unsettles the players. It enables them to dictate the speed of the attack and it’s very difficult to defend."
